EU policy impacts

As a consequence of the cross sectoral approach required for managing protected areas, management plans need to incorporate, or at least take into consideration, relevant European Union policies. In particular the Water Framework Directive, the Common Agricultural Policy and the Rural Development Strategies are highly relevant.

  • Common Agricultural Policy: especially pillar 2, adjusting management to Birds and Habitats Directives
  • EU Biodiversity Strategy: targets on biodiversity and ecosystem services
  • EU Water Framework Directive: management of water bodies
  • Natura 2000: implementing the Habitats and Birds Directive
